The Toyota link in beginning of the article actually goes to Nissan website FYI- good points though. Wondered also why Lexus wasn't tied in with Toyota as they are essentially teh same company, correct?

The longer it takes for one (individual or brand) to apologize for a mistake, the bigger the mistake becomes in the eyes of the offended.

If flying is safer than before all the post-911 reforms and Clinton was as good a President after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, then now it's probably the best time to buy a Toyota. We, however, prefer to drive Hondas, I an Accord EX and my husband an Acura TLC (which he thinks is short for 'tender, love and care'). Whatever you drive, please be on the lookout for bikers and runners.

Toyota's recent foibles have been an interesting test of a brand that had almost universal positive appeal. It was one of the shining examples of a "lovemark", a brand that evokes loyalty beyond reason. The questions going forward, assuming they've learned their PR lesson, is has there been damage done to the company culture within, and how has it effected their ability to build a great car? One could also ask, has Tiger Woods forgotten how to play great golf since his moral indiscretions? Stay tuned...

Yet another example of how forthrightness is appreciated by those on the receiving end of it. One wonders how much better off Toyota would be today, especially since NHTSA has now concluded that most of the collisions that occurred as a result of unintended acceleration were the result of driver error.

Industry veterans at Audi must be chuckling over that one. Of course, the investigation of Audi's unintended acceleration incidents in the 80's took years not months for NHTSA to investigate and almost destroyed the company in the US. Now, they are thriving. So, it will be interesting to look at Toyota a few years from now. My guess is that no one will remember.

What, if anything has Toyota learned from stepping in their own pile of sh!t? Will they recover? Are they on the road to recovery? Would love your perspective on the road back.

First the first Gulf oil spill, now we see that the second one has blown up in Louisiana. I sure hope that this doesn't mean more environmental damage. On the other hand, this nation needs this domestic energy. This such a complicated problem to figure out. I'm not sure what the solution is.
