There have been several non-scientific studies that seem to reinforce your premise. I can recall when I was part of interview panels that a "look" often blinded panelists to shortcomings of the candidate. Of course I never fell into that trap. Ha.
Let's face it; we tend to be very visual creatures. And we may as well make the most of it. If we are headed for an important meeting, don't we dress in a manner that we think will make the right impression?
John- I have to defend my buddy Bruce. Despite the minor gaffe (not so bad when you consider Hyundai and Kia are essentially the same company), Bruce is quite the car guru.

As an executive recruiter, one of my frustrations with ad agencies is they tend to make poor hiring decisions based largely on presence or good looks. Males tend to get hired or promoted more frequently if they are 6'3", good looking and articulate. Same applies for females who are at least 5"10', good looking and articulate. These candidates could be slow witted, not terrible creative, or ill suited for the position, but, as a general rule, agencies don't take the time to find out what's behind the pretty face.

Excellent post! In other words, spelling and neatness count, and you have to have some semblance of an original thought (written as I grade papers).

Hi Bruce, save a day for my favorite mantra of all time (Credit of course to our beloved Merrett Stierheim). "The Main Thing In Business Is To Keep The Main Thing... The Main Thing."

Brings back a lot of fond memories no?

Emotional (hearts first), patriotic (hearts second), uniting, product driven (minds) and a hell of a brand slogan… Jeep’s “The Things We Make, Make Us.” In my opinion it’s not only a slogan but a branding affirmation that tells the customer we care about quality and our products. A branding effort that touches the heart and the mind.
